Hai Phong expands maritime infrastructure to boost logistics capacity
Vietnam is expanding its maritime infrastructure in Hai Phong to strengthen its position as a major Southeast Asian logistics hub. A central component of this development is the Lach Huyen deep-water complex, which provides the capacity to receive large container ships and connect directly to global markets, reducing reliance on foreign transshipment ports.
A key milestone in this expansion is the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT), covering berths 5 and 6 of Lach Huyen, which became operational in 2025. The Hai Phong port system now includes over 50 terminals and more than 14,000 meters of wharfage.
Beyond industrial growth, the city’s development is supported by a deep maritime heritage dating back thousands of years, including the ancient Cai Beo archaeological site. This cultural foundation, combined with modern digital transformation and smart port initiatives, continues to drive foreign direct investment and economic growth in northern Vietnam.
