Hai Phong police arrest fugitive after 24 years

Police in Hai Phong have arrested 73-year-old Nguyen Thi Gioi, a fugitive who had been evading authorities for nearly 24 years. The arrest took place on September 17, 2026, in the Bach Dang ward of Hai Phong.

Gioi was originally wanted since December 13, 2002, following a warrant issued by the Hai Phong City Police Investigation Department. She was charged with the crime of ‘abuse of trust to appropriate property’. After more than two decades of changing residences and attempting to evade detection, she was located and apprehended by the Economic Police Department's Team 4 in coordination with local ward police.
