Apprehension of long-term fugitives in Vietnam

Overview

Recent reports highlight several instances of long-term fugitives being apprehended or surrendering to authorities in Vietnam.

In Thai Nguyen province, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha surrendered to police on August 21 after 12 years on the run. Ha had been wanted since May 2012 for fraud involving false employment claims made while working at a hospital between 2004 and 2005.

In Hai Phong, authorities secured the surrender of Tran Thi Loi, who had been wanted for theft since September 1995. Additionally, police in the Bach Dang ward arrested 73-year-old Nguyen Thi Gioi on September 17. Gioi had evaded authorities for nearly 24 years following a 2002 warrant for ‘abuse of trust to appropriate property’ much like the other cases involving economic or property crimes.
