Haikyu!! announces new anime film and special for 2027

New details have been released regarding upcoming projects for the Haikyu!! anime franchise, both of which are scheduled for release in Japan in 2027.

Production I.G is developing a sequel film titled ‘Haikyu!! VS The Little Giant’, which serves as a direct follow-up to ‘Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle’. The film will focus on the match between Karasuno High and Kamomedai High, highlighting the confrontation between Shoyo Hinata and Kamomedai’s star player, Korai Hoshiumi. Susumu Mitsunaka returns as the writer and director for this production.

Additionally, a special anime project titled ‘Haikyu!! Bakemono Tachi no Iku Tokoro’ (Where Monsters Go) has been announced. While previously suggested for television, it is now set to be released in cinemas alongside the film. This special will focus on the match between Fukurodani Academy and Mujinazaka High School, featuring characters such as Kotaro Bokuto and Wakatsu Kiryu. New promotional visuals and a teaser have been released to support these announcements.
