Hailstorm Devastates Vineyards in Italy's Piceno Region
Severe hail struck the Piceno area of the Marche region on 21 July 2026, causing extensive damage to vineyards in the valleys of the Tesino and the Aso. The Consortium for the Protection of Piceno Wines reported that grape clusters, leaves, canes and farm structures were hit, with many producers unable to assess the exact loss percentages.
Consortium president Simone Capecci announced that the group will request urgent assistance from authorities, including direct compensation for verified damages, preferential credit terms and promotional incentives to help affected growers. If direct reparations are not possible, the consortium will propose alternative support measures such as easier credit access and marketing aid. The most impacted municipalities include Ripatransone, Cossignano, Acquaviva Picena, Montefiore dell’Aso and surrounding towns.
