Hailstorm wrecks crops in Tyrnavos, Greece

A severe hailstorm struck the municipality of Tyrnavos in central Greece, destroying crops in villages such as Platanoulia, Dendri, Agia Sophia and Damasios just days before harvest.

Local officials, including the mayor Stelis Tsikritsi, ELGA (Greek Agricultural Insurance Organization) representatives, the regional governor of Thessaly and agricultural cooperatives conducted on‑site inspections and damage assessments. Farmers reported total loss of production and called for rapid completion of assessments, full compensation for the lost harvest and advance payments to sustain their livelihoods.

The meetings involved regional authorities, members of parliament and local agricultural leaders, who pledged to support the affected producers and address the urgent need for financial aid.
