Hair Loss Linked to Lower Prostate Cancer Risk

Researchers found that men who begin losing hair around age 30 have a 29 % lower chance of developing prostate cancer, while those who start losing hair earlier show a 45 % reduction in risk. The association applies to both aggressive and less aggressive forms of the disease.

The scientists suggest the link may involve androgen‑related hormones such as dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and genetic variations affecting hormone pathways. They caution that the findings are preliminary and that earlier studies have reported mixed results, so further research is needed to clarify the relationship.

Prostate cancer remains the most common cancer in men and a leading cause of cancer‑related death, making any potential risk factor of public‑health interest.
