Global preparations underway for 2026-2027 academic year
Various nations are implementing measures to prepare for the 2026-2027 academic year.
In Haiti, the government has announced support for 160,000 families, including financial aid for 130,000 parents and 30,000 vulnerable households. To address security concerns, the Haitian National Police will mobilize over 10,000 officers to protect schools and students. Infrastructure improvements include the rehabilitation of 52 schools and the distribution of 8,000 pieces of school furniture.
Algeria is intensifying preparations through local authorities, focusing on school infrastructure, transport, and catering services. Local officials have also launched proximity markets across 69 wilayas to provide school supplies at competitive prices to ease the financial burden on families.
In Côte d'Ivoire, the Ministry of National Education has set priorities including teacher training, school safety, and the integrity of examinations. Meanwhile, Guinea has officially set its school reopening date for October 5, 2026.
In Senegal, initiatives are underway to promote literacy and gender equality. The National Literacy Month will be launched in the Pikine-Guédiawaye region, and the National Assembly has launched the 'AAR Protéger' program to enhance the leadership of women in peace, defense, and security sectors.
