Haiti faces significant hurdles in its electoral process, with voter registration currently at only 8% of the potential electorate. The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) reports that 507,015 citizens have registered across 1,271 active centers. OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin announced intentions to consult the Venice Commission to establish clear criteria for vetting candidates, specifically to prevent individuals linked to illicit activities from running. The OAS has also provided a platform to facilitate candidate registration and has emphasized the necessity of holding national elections in 2026, noting that the last presidential election took place in 2016.
