Haiti election stakeholders call for improved registration and neutrality

Haitian civil society and political leaders are calling for increased measures to ensure the integrity of upcoming elections. The Collectif Kenbe Kapòw, a civil society organization in northern Haiti, has issued an open letter to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) president, Peterson Pierre-Louis, expressing concerns regarding voter registration.

The collective reported that many citizens misunderstand registration procedures or face difficulties completing them. They have proposed four priorities to the CEP: strengthening public awareness, simplifying registration methods—including the potential use of a secure mobile application—increasing the number of registration agents in hard-to-reach areas, and fostering collaboration with media and community actors.

In a separate call for responsibility, former President Jocelerme Privert urged authorities and political actors to guarantee free, transparent, and peaceful elections. Highlighting that Haiti has gone over a decade without regular democratic political renewal, Privert emphasized the need for the government to maintain strict neutrality. He warned that public resources, including administration, vehicles, and social programs, must not be used to favor or disadvantage any political candidate or party.
