Haiti parties demand postponement of electoral registration

Around twenty Haitian political formations submitted a joint position note on 13 July 2026 to the provisional electoral council (CEP) requesting a suspension of the scheduled registration periods for political groupings (13‑17 July) and for regroupings (22‑27 July). The parties argue that the timelines are too short to allow internal consultations, negotiations and legal preparations. They point to legal uncertainties, multiple versions of the electoral decree and a persistent security situation in several regions that could undermine a credible, inclusive election. Signatories include parties such as EDE, RDNP, SDP, Nouvelle Orientation, Debout Citoyen and figures like Claude Joseph. The groups urge the CEP to publish a definitive, harmonized decree, set a realistic calendar, and engage a formal dialogue with political forces, warning that proceeding under current conditions could trigger contested results and public distrust.

The request reflects broader concerns about the credibility of Haiti’s 2026 electoral process amid ongoing insecurity and institutional challenges.
