Haiti political groups call for leadership changes and new consensus
Political organizations in Haiti are calling for significant changes to the current transition process. The Coalition of Republican Forces (CFR), representing 44 parties and organizations, is advocating for a new political dialogue to reach a consensus before February 7, 2027. The CFR argues that the current government, led by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, has failed to create the security and political conditions necessary for elections originally planned for late 2026.
To facilitate this, the CFR has established an exchange committee featuring Alex Larsen, Marie Denise Claude, and Mackenson Joseph to engage with various stakeholders.
Simultaneously, the Mouvement patriotique populaire pour émejans pèp la (MOPAPEP) has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Fils-Aimé. The movement cites an insufficient response to the nation's security and humanitarian crises, noting high numbers of internal displacements and casualties from gang violence. MOPAPEP has proposed the formation of a two-headed executive government to improve transparency and prioritize public services, security, and aid for displaced populations.
