Haiti political landscape shifts ahead of elections
The Haitian political landscape is undergoing significant restructuring ahead of upcoming elections. The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has recorded 105 political structures, including independent parties like Les Engagés pour le Développement (EDE) and various groupings such as VIKTWA, REKONSILYE, and DEBLOKE.
Ten presidential candidates have already been registered. Major political groupings are forming through alliances; for instance, the VIKTWA coalition has brought together 52 political formations and selected Wilner Joseph as its candidate. The REKONSILYE grouping has designated former Speaker of the House Gary Bodeau. Representing EDE is Claude Joseph, a former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In recent administrative changes, Peterson Pierre-Louis has assumed the presidency of the CEP, joined by Jaccéus Joseph as vice-president, Nemrod Sanon as secretary general, and Schnaïda Adély as treasurer. Meanwhile, EDE is marking its fifth anniversary by emphasizing its identity as a modern political force focused on citizen participation and institutional modernization as it prepares for the electoral contest.
