Haiti Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé Registers to Vote, Urges Citizens to Enroll

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils‑Aimé of Haiti registered as a voter on 4 August 2026 at the Lycée de Pétion‑Ville, describing the act as a civic duty and a signal of support for the electoral process. He called on all Haitians holding a valid national ID to register at centres in Port‑au‑Prince, provincial towns and remote communes, emphasizing that registration is “the first expression of popular sovereignty” ahead of the first‑round elections slated for 13 December.

Fils‑Aimé rejected accusations that his registration favours any candidate, noting that the list of contenders has not yet been announced. He assured the public that security conditions will allow free voting and that the state has provided the necessary resources to the provisional electoral council. The council reported that about 13 000 voters were registered on 3 August and aims to enrol three to four million of the roughly 6.5 million eligible Haitians.

The government pledged continued support for a free, inclusive, transparent and credible electoral process, stressing its commitment to the independence of the electoral institution.
