Haiti Prime Minister coordinates security for electoral process

Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé held a high-level security meeting to discuss the conditions necessary for upcoming elections and the restoration of constitutional order. The meeting included representatives from the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), the Ministry of Defense, the Haitian National Police (PNH), the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H), and the Gang Repression Force (FRG).

The discussions focused on evaluating the national security situation to ensure the CEP can operate with reliable data and favorable conditions for a credible vote. The government aims to strengthen coordination between political authorities and security forces to facilitate the democratic process.

However, the electoral process faces significant criticism. The Provisional Electoral Council has modified the electoral decree four times, leading the Progressive Opposition and other civil society groups to denounce the changes as a sign of incompetence and political mismanagement. Organizations including the Observatory for Good Governance and Democracy (OBGD) and the Haitian Episcopal Conference have expressed concerns regarding the credibility of the scheduled December 13 vote.
