El Salvador deploys over 2,000 troops to Haiti for rescue mission

El Salvador has deployed a contingent of more than 2,000 soldiers to Haiti to conduct a large-scale rescue operation. The mission aims to locate four Salvadoran aviation technicians who went missing following an ambush by armed gangs on October 18 in the Croix-des-Bouquets area near Port-au-Prince.

Salvadorian President Nayib Bukele held a telephone conversation with Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to coordinate bilateral security cooperation and search efforts. The Haitian government expressed solidarity with the missing personnel and emphasized the need for operations to respect Haitian state authority.

Logistical support for the deployment has involved regional cooperation. A National Cargo Boeing 747-400 recently landed at Las Américas International Airport in the Dominican Republic, reportedly transporting military equipment, including five Salvadoran Air Force combat helicopters (models MD500 and MD530), intended for the mission.
