Haitian Embassy in Chile stormed during protest over document delays

A large group of Haitian nationals staged a protest at the Haitian Embassy in Providencia, Santiago, resulting in the door being forced open and individuals entering the diplomatic premises. The demonstration was driven by frustrations regarding delays in issuing criminal record certificates, a document essential for employment and various administrative procedures in Chile.

Community spokesperson David Antoine cited poor management and misinformation from the embassy as key factors in the unrest. He also noted that the National Migration Service (Sermig) has implemented arbitrary criteria that have hindered the processing of certain documents. Witnesses reported chaos and shouting at the scene, with some residents noting that tensions regarding document delays have persisted for several years.
