Haitian security forces launch operations to reclaim territory from gangs
Haitian security forces are conducting intensified operations to reclaim territory from criminal gangs in several regions. In Kenscoff, the Police Nationale d'Haïti (PNH) announced it has regained control of the Bois d’Avril area. This follows recent interventions in sectors including Viard, Gode, and Nan Kroupi. Additionally, the PNH, supported by the Gang Repression Force (FRG), successfully liberated six hostages previously kidnapped by the Didi gang in Kenscoff.
In Gressier, specialized police units including Swatt, Utag, BRI, and the newly deployed BOID unit have made significant advances against gang strongholds in the highlands. These operations, supported by the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H), aim to dismantle illegal toll posts and restore control over national routes used by merchants.
Amidst these tactical gains, the security situation remains fragile. The National Human Rights Defense Network (RNDDH) reported 164 deaths due to violence during July and August 2026. French Ambassador Gautier Lekens has met with PNH Director General Vladimir Paraison to advocate for improved coordination between the police, the military, and gang repression forces to effectively combat the ongoing criminal threat.
