Haitian Prime Minister praises historical ties with Spain

Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé praised the historical ties between Haiti and Spain during a ceremony celebrating Spain's National Day. In his address, Fils-Aimé cited Spain’s experience with democratic transition as an inspiration for Haiti and emphasized the importance of national reconciliation and dialogue.

The Prime Minister highlighted ongoing Spanish support in the sectors of water, health, and education. He called for strengthened bilateral cooperation, specifically through the relaunch of the Haiti-Spain Joint Commission.

Spanish Ambassador to Port-au-Prince, Marco Antonio Peñín Toledano, reaffirmed Spain’s support for Haiti regarding its current security and electoral challenges. He also expressed a willingness to bolster economic relations between the two nations.

Haiti continues to face a severe multi-dimensional crisis characterized by extreme insecurity. Since the beginning of the year, over 5,700 people have been killed or injured due to gang violence. This instability has repeatedly delayed the organization of presidential and legislative elections.
