Haiti electoral council extends candidate registration deadline
Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has extended the deadline for candidate registration and document submission until October 9, 2026. This adjustment follows requests from various political organizations and comes as the CEP continues discussions with the government regarding potential modifications to the current electoral decree.
In political developments, the party Les Engagés pour le Développement (EDE) has unanimously designated former interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph as its sole presidential candidate. This decision by the party’s National Political Bureau bypassed previously announced internal primaries, which had included other contenders such as Helph Monod Honorat, Joseph Harold Pierre, and Jean Marc Berthier Antoine. The EDE cited Joseph’s political experience and state management capabilities as primary reasons for his selection.
Other candidates have also begun the registration process. Former interim president Jocelerme Privert has submitted his candidacy under the Ayiti Transfòme banner, focusing on a platform of restoring national security.
