Haiti's Electoral Council extends party registration deadline to July 31
Haiti's provisional electoral council (CEP) announced that the deadline for political parties to register for the upcoming general elections has been extended from its original date to July 31. The change also shifts the registration period for political coalitions to August 10‑14, after it was previously set for July 13‑17.
The extension responds to formal requests from about twenty parties and civil organizations that cited technical and logistical limitations in meeting the initial timeline. The CEP reiterated its commitment to conduct the election process in an inclusive, transparent and impartial manner, despite ongoing disagreements between the interim government and the electoral authority over the election budget and the legal decree governing the vote. The exact date of the national election has not yet been determined.
