Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council faces crisis over disputed decree

The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) in Haiti is facing internal and external tension following the government's publication of a controversial electoral decree. The CEP has taken conservatory measures against its Executive Director, Uder Antoine, barring him from accessing the institution's premises. This action follows reports that the Prime Minister presented an electoral decree to council members that was drafted entirely by the Prime Minister's office, bypassing the version previously developed by the CEP.

Amidst this friction, the CEP is also moving forward with technical preparations for upcoming elections. The institution held a meeting with political parties to present a candidate registration platform and discuss the progress of the electoral process. Discussions included party financing, the requirement to submit membership lists, and security concerns. CEP President Jacques Desrosiers emphasized the need for integrity and public participation to restore citizen confidence in the electoral system.
