Hajduk Split nears signing of Montpellier midfielder Khalil Fayad

Hajduk Split is nearing the completion of a transfer for 22-year-old French midfielder Khalil Fayad from Montpellier. Fayad was spotted in the Poljud stadium stands during Hajduk's match against Lokomotiva, signaling that the deal is in its final stages.

Fayad, a product of the Montpellier academy with 94 appearances for the first team and 67 Ligue 1 appearances, is expected to sign a three-year contract. Although Montpellier had previously reached agreements with Widzew Lodz and Almeria, Fayad ultimately chose the move to Split.

Coach Gonzalo García has described the new signing as a technically strong and energetic player capable of playing as a central midfielder or in more advanced roles. The transfer is intended to strengthen the midfield following the departure of Rokas Pukštas.
