Hajj 2027 preparations focus on service quality and health requirements

Preparations for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage are underway, with authorities focusing on service improvements and health compliance. In Indonesia, Commission VIII of the DPR is evaluating the 2026 Hajj implementation to strengthen oversight for 2027. Key concerns raised by regional organizers in Banten include the high ratio of pilgrims to guides—noting that one guide may be responsible for up to 151 pilgrims—and inadequate accommodation. Specifically, some pilgrims faced lodging in Makkah located approximately 13.5 kilometers from Masjidil Haram, causing significant travel difficulties.

In Malaysia, prospective pilgrims for 2027 must undergo mandatory health screenings conducted by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Lembaga Tabung Haji. These examinations, required under the Tabung Haji Act 1995, aim to identify individuals at risk of health complications during the pilgrimage to ensure they can fulfill the religious requirements of 'istito’ah' (capability).
