Hakan Fidan visits Libya to promote unity and strengthen bilateral ties
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan conducted an official visit to Libya, meeting with key political and military leaders in both Tripoli and Benghazi. The visit was described as a manifestation of Turkey’s ‘One Libya’ policy, which seeks to engage with the country’s western, eastern, and southern regions without distinction to promote stability and unity.
In Tripoli, Fidan held discussions with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah of the Government of National Unity, Presidential Council President Mohammed al-Menfi, and High Council of State President Mohammed Takala. These talks focused on bilateral relations, the ongoing political process, and regional security issues.
In Benghazi, Fidan met with Libyan National Army commander Khalifa Haftar, deputy commander Saddam Haftar, and House of Representatives Speaker Aguila Saleh. Discussions in the east centered on resolving the political deadlock, organizing national elections, and expanding cooperation in reconstruction and development. Fidan noted that Turkish construction companies are actively participating in infrastructure projects across eastern and southern Libya. The Minister emphasized that Turkey remains committed to its role as a constructive mediator to support Libya’s peace and prosperity.
