Hakkari implements electric fencing project for beekeepers

The Hakkari Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry has launched the ‘I Pulled the Fence, My Bees are Safe’ project to protect beehives from wild animals. During a ceremony in Akçalı village, electric wire fence systems were distributed to eligible beekeepers.

Hakkari Governor and Deputy Mayor İbrahim Taşyapan stated that the initiative aims to protect producers' labor and ensure honey can be sold at a fair value. He noted that the region produces approximately 1,200 tons of honey annually from 160,000 hives. The project utilizes electric fences to deter wild animals from approaching apiaries.

Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmet Asım Şen explained that the project was implemented following a study submitted to the General Directorate of Livestock. Beneficiaries were selected via a lottery from producers owning at least 50 beehives.
