Halal barbecue trends grow across Texas

Halal barbecue is experiencing a significant rise in popularity across Texas, as Muslim pitmasters introduce their own interpretations of the state’s iconic culinary tradition. In Fort Worth, Goldee’s BBQ has gained widespread acclaim, earning the title of the state’s number one barbecue spot from Texas Monthly and receiving a Bib Gourmand award from the Michelin Guide. The restaurant offers classic Texas meats alongside halal brisket, turkey, and lamb.

This trend is expanding throughout the region, with at least a dozen barbecue establishments now serving halal meats. Notable examples include Yearby’s Barbecue & Waterice, operated by CJ and Sabrina Henley, and Levant Mediterranean BBQ, which has locations in Houston and Frisco. Other local institutions are also incorporating halal beef into their menus to meet growing demand.
