Halo: Combat Evolved multiplayer ported to Nintendo 64

Developer Jack Tulli has successfully ported the multiplayer mode of the original Halo: Combat Evolved to the Nintendo 64. The project, titled ‘Halo 64’, utilizes a low-polygon art style and is built upon the open-source halo-ce-universal decompilation project.

The port supports up to four players via local split-screen and includes all 13 original multiplayer maps, such as Blood Gulch and Sidewinder. It features classic game modes including Slayer, Team Slayer, Capture the Flag, and King of the Hill. Notably, the project adds a Firefight PvE mode and supports up to eight AI-controlled bots, which use names inspired by classic Nintendo and Rare characters.

To run the game, users require a Nintendo 64 with an 8MB Expansion Pack and a legitimate copy of the original Xbox version of Halo: Combat Evolved to provide the necessary game images. The project also includes Rumble Pak support for controller vibration.
