Halo: Combat Evolved Nintendo 64 fan port
Overview
Developer Jack Tulli has developed ‘Halo 64’, a fan-led project that ports the multiplayer mode of the original Xbox title, Halo: Combat Evolved, to the Nintendo 64 hardware.
The port utilizes a low-polygon art style and is built upon the open-source halo-ce-universal decompilation project, running on the N64’s VR4300 processor via frameworks such as libdragon and tiny3d. It supports up to four players through local split-screen across all thirteen original multiplayer maps, including ‘Blood Gulch’ and ‘Sidewinder’.
In addition to classic modes like Slayer, Capture the Flag, and King of the Hill, the project implements a Firefight PvE mode featuring up to eight AI-controlled bots. To function, users must provide their own game assets by extracting data from a legitimate original Xbox disc image. The project can be played on original Nintendo 64 hardware using a flashcart or via an N64 emulator on a PC. The developer has noted that this is an unofficial creation and is not affiliated with Microsoft, Bungie, or Nintendo.
