Halo franchise undergoes restructuring amid project cancellations
Halo Studios is undergoing a major restructuring following significant layoffs, leaving approximately 20 employees to maintain existing franchise titles. While Activision is reportedly set to develop a new main entry in the series, reports suggest a planned spin-off based on the novel ‘Halo: First Strike’ has been canceled. This project was intended to bridge the narrative gap between ‘Halo: Combat Evolved’ and ‘Halo 2’ and was slated for a 2027 release.
Despite these internal changes, the planned ‘Halo Fest’ will proceed as scheduled. The event, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the franchise, is set to take place in Seattle, Washington, from December 11 to 13, 2026. Tahir ‘Tashi’ Hasangjeka, a lead employee for the franchise, confirmed via social media that the restructuring has not impacted the event's planning.
