Halo Studios restructuring and impending closure
Overview
Halo Studios is undergoing a significant contraction and restructuring. Initially, the studio implemented major layoffs, reducing its workforce to approximately 20 employees to maintain existing titles. During this period, a planned spin-off based on the novel ‘Halo: First Strike’ was reportedly canceled, though the 25th-anniversary ‘Halo Fest’ in Seattle was confirmed to proceed.
Following these changes, reports indicate that Halo Studios is entering its final stages of operation. A remaining team of roughly 30 developers, led by studio head Pierre Hintze, is working on a final major content update for ‘Halo: Campaign Evolved’—which is expected to include a Theater mode and ‘Firefight’ mode—and preparing for the December Halo Fest.
Once these tasks are completed, the studio is expected to close. While the studio will cease operations, Activision has taken charge of the franchise, and several Halo literary projects, including ‘Halo: Parasite’s Wake’ and ‘Halo: The Master Chief Omnibus’, remain on schedule for release.
