Haltern am See expands regional cooperation for heat transition

Haltern am See is expanding its cooperation within the Münsterland region to advance climate protection and heat supply. The city's climate and green space committee has proposed two major steps, with a final decision expected from the council on October 1.

Plans include joining the 'Zukunftsinitiative Klima,' a network that assists cities in adapting to climate change effects such as heat and heavy rain. Additionally, the city intends to participate in the 'Kommunales Netzwerk für Energieeffizienz und Wärmeplanung Münsterland' organized by Gelsenwasser AG for an initial two-year period.

Regarding municipal heat planning, the city is investigating various renewable sources, including geothermal energy, wastewater, lake and river heat, and biogas. Current assessments suggest that decentralized solutions, particularly heat pumps, will play a significant role. A final decision on heat planning is anticipated in early 2027.
