Hamas delegation arrives in Cairo for Gaza ceasefire negotiations

A Hamas delegation led by Khalil al‑Hayya arrived in Cairo, Egypt, to begin a new round of cease‑fire talks on the Gaza conflict. The team, which also includes Zaher Jabarin, Hussam Badran and Ghazi Hamad, will meet Egyptian officials, other Palestinian groups and international mediators. They aim to implement the first phase of the October 10, 2025 cease‑fire agreement – ending Israeli attacks, facilitating humanitarian aid and arranging prisoner exchanges – and to discuss mechanisms for moving to a second phase of disarmament. The statement said, “Negotiations this time will focus on implementing the first phase of the agreement, stopping Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza, and examining mechanisms for moving to phase two.” Since the cease‑fire took effect, 947 Palestinians have been killed and 2,935 injured, underscoring the urgency of the talks.
