Hamas delegation travels to Cairo for second-stage Gaza ceasefire talks
A Hamas negotiation team is heading to Cairo to discuss the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza cease‑fire agreement. The delegation will meet Egyptian officials together with mediators from Qatar, Turkey and representatives of Palestinian factions.
The talks aim to make the cease‑fire permanent, secure the obligations reached earlier at the Sharm el‑Sheikh summit, address the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and launch the second phase of the plan outlined by U.S. President Donald Trump. The first phase was approved in October 2025 after talks in Egypt, but Israel continues limited strikes, and the U.S. special envoy announced the second phase’s start in January.
A Gaza Management National Committee of Palestinian technocrats has been formed, though Israel has not yet permitted the committee’s entry into the territory.
