Hamas launches Cairo talks on Gaza ceasefire and humanitarian aid

Hamas announced that its delegation began a series of meetings in Cairo on Saturday, June 6, 2026, with Palestinian factions and international mediators. The talks, led by spokesperson Hazem Qasim and the political bureau chief Dr. Khalil al‑Haya, include representatives Zaher Jbarin, Ghazi Hamad and Husam Badran. Their aim is to complete the first phase of the cease‑fire agreement – halting Israeli attacks, opening the Rafah crossing and delivering emergency humanitarian assistance to Gaza – and to start discussions on a second phase covering possible international forces, the establishment of a technocratic committee, reconstruction, and the issue of Palestinian weapons.

The Hamas statement condemned the Israeli strike on a displacement tent camp in the Rimal district of Gaza, which killed at least six civilians, including children and women, and injured about ten others. The strike was described as a “criminal escalation” aimed at undermining the cease‑fire process. Hamas emphasized that any resumption of hostilities would endanger the Palestinian people and called for immediate adherence to the cease‑fire terms.
