Hamas Northern Gaza Commander killed in Israeli airstrike

An Israeli airstrike on Tuesday killed Izz al-Din al-Bik, the commander of Hamas’ Northern Gaza Brigade, according to Israeli and Palestinian officials. The strike hit an apartment building in the Nasr neighborhood of Gaza City during the early morning hours. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the military targeted Al-Bik due to his involvement in planning attacks and recruiting militants.

Medical authorities reported that at least one other person died from injuries sustained during the strike. This operation is part of an intensified Israeli campaign against Hamas figures. The Israeli military claims to have killed at least 20 Hamas members this month, including senior commanders and individuals linked to the October 7, 2023, attacks.

Hamas has denied allegations that it is rearming or attempting to rebuild its arsenal, instead accusing Israel of undermining the existing ceasefire agreement. Negotiations regarding a full disarmament and Israeli troop withdrawal remain stalled.
