Hamas says Gaza peace talks in Cairo make no significant progress

Hamas officials told EFE that the latest round of negotiations in Cairo on the Gaza peace plan presented by Nikolay Mladenov ended "without significant advances". The Palestinian movement maintained that the main obstacle remains its disarmament, which it wants to see implemented gradually and only after a phased Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

The group also said the issue of wages for former Gaza‑government employees is close to resolution, while it has withdrawn a demand that all former staff be paid in full. Hamas removed the word "infrastructure" from the clause on weapons storage, which had defined tunnels, depots and workshops. The talks continue to focus on four key points: immediate work of the National Committee, weapons storage, new tasks for the Peace Council, and an international stabilization force. The United States has formally recognized the second phase of the agreement, but many first‑phase provisions remain blocked as Israel has not yet allowed the entry of a Palestinian technocratic committee or withdrawn its forces.
