Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya travels to Cairo for Gaza ceasefire talks

Hamas political leader Khalil al-Hayya has traveled to Cairo to lead a high-level delegation in talks with Egyptian officials, including Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad. The visit aims to discuss the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the implementation of a roadmap for the region.

The delegation includes senior figures such as Mohammed Darwish, Khaled Meshaal, Zaher Jabarin, and Bassem Naim. These discussions occur ahead of a planned Middle East visit by US envoy Jared Kushner and the Board of Peace's high representative Nickolay Mladenov, who intend to visit Israel and Egypt to address differences regarding a Gaza plan.

A central point of contention remains the 15-point roadmap proposed by the Board of Peace, which suggests a gradual and parallel process of Hamas disarmament and Israeli military withdrawal. While Hamas has expressed acceptance of the plan, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected it, demanding the complete disarmament of Hamas before any military withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
