Han Dong-hoon and Kwak Sang-eon clash over Roh Moo-hyun bribery allegations
Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon and Democratic Party lawmaker Kwak Sang-eon are engaged in a heated political dispute regarding bribery allegations involving the late former President Roh Moo-hyun and businessman Park Yeon-cha.
Han has repeatedly asserted that the 2009 investigations into Roh’s family receiving luxury goods and funds from Park were “fact” and not a fabrication. He specifically challenged Kwak, Roh’s son-in-law, questioning whether funds from Park were used to purchase Kwak’s family apartment in New Jersey, USA.
Kwak has countered by demanding that Han provide concrete evidence to substantiate these claims, stating he would take responsibility if the facts were proven. Kwak noted that as a former legal representative and witness during the original investigations, he remains uncertain of the exact extent of the truth but rejects the characterization of the investigations as mere political manipulation.
The Democratic Party has condemned Han’s remarks as “despicable” and an attempt to defame the deceased president for political gain. Meanwhile, some members of the ruling party, such as Kwon Young-jin, have called the dispute “unproductive,” noting that the primary figures involved in the original case have passed away.
