Haneda Airport Terminal 1 opens new North Side Satellite

Haneda Airport's Terminal 1 North Side Satellite officially commenced operations on September 1, 2026. This marks the first major facility expansion for Terminal 1 since its opening in September 1993.

The new facility features gates 24 through 29. Notably, gate 29 includes Japan's longest passenger boarding bridge (PBB), measuring nearly 100 meters. This U-shaped design was implemented to accommodate future expansions while keeping construction costs and passenger facility charges lower. While the design offers accessibility benefits over shuttle buses, the distance from security checkpoints to the furthest gates can be approximately 15 minutes or nearly one kilometer.

Japan Airlines (JAL) operated the first flight from the new satellite, a service to Memanbetsu. Skymark Airlines is also utilizing the facility, with its first scheduled departure being a flight to Kobe. To improve punctuality alongside this expansion, domestic airlines at Haneda have also implemented stricter baggage drop deadlines, moving the cutoff to 30 minutes before departure.
