Hanmi Semiconductor invests 130 billion won in new Incheon plant
Hanmi Semiconductor has announced a major investment of 130 billion won to establish its eighth manufacturing plant in the Juan National Industrial Complex in Incheon. The company acquired a 6,230-pyeong facility from Mercury to meet the surging demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) semiconductor equipment.
The investment includes 56 billion won for the facility acquisition. Hanmi Semiconductor plans to remodel the existing building to build advanced production infrastructure, aiming for mass production by the second quarter of 2027. The new plant will focus on producing TC bonders and hybrid bonders for HBM, as well as 2.5D packaging equipment for AI semiconductors and BOC/COB equipment for high-performance memory.
This expansion follows a 100 billion won investment in a seventh plant last year. Once both the seventh and eighth plants are operational, the company’s total production line area will expand to approximately 34,318 pyeong. This strategic move is intended to secure production capacity (CAPA) ahead of global semiconductor manufacturers' facility expansions and to address the increasing lead times in the AI system semiconductor packaging equipment market.
