Hanoi 97-year-old resident receives delayed monthly pension after multiple trips to authorities

On 28 August, Kim Lien ward officials confirmed that a 97‑year‑old woman (identified as N.T.B.) had to visit the ward office and Vietinbank three times before receiving her monthly veteran and revolutionary pension. The delay resulted from a clerical error during the recent re‑allocation of her household record after the merger of Nam Dong ward, which mistakenly transferred her file to Dong Da before it was reassigned to Kim Lien. The ward’s review caused a double‑transfer of the allowance, postponing payment.

The ward chairman, Lê Thị Kim Huệ, said staff were sent to the elderly resident’s home to explain the mistake and apologise. After the family raised the issue on social media, the payment was finally processed later that day. The resident’s daughter recounted, "Mẹ tôi đợi từ 8h sáng, tới 15h chiều, sau 3 lần lấy số thứ tự nhưng tiền vẫn chưa được chuyển về tài khoản. Ngân hàng người ta không có lỗi đâu, lỗi này là do bên phường Kim Liên không chuyển tiền về cho mẹ tôi."

This incident follows other recent complaints from elderly revolutionary veterans in Hanoi about cumbersome administrative procedures, reigniting public discussion on the management of social assistance for senior cadres.
