Hanoi accelerates construction of seven new Red River bridges
Hanoi is undergoing a major infrastructure transformation aimed at reshaping its urban landscape and economic development through a series of large-scale transportation projects. Central to this plan is the development of seven new bridges crossing the Red River: Van Phuc, Hong Ha, Thuong Cat, Tu Lien, Tran Hung Dao, Ngoc Hoi, and Me So. These projects are designed to integrate the two banks of the river, reducing traffic pressure and creating new corridors for urban expansion.
The Tu Lien bridge project is a key priority, serving as a symbolic link between the city center and northern areas. As of October 2026, site clearance for the 62.51-hectare project has been completed, with construction progressing toward a technical opening goal in 2027. Similarly, the Ngoc Hoi bridge on the Ring Road 3.5 axis is under construction to connect Hanoi with Hung Yen.
In addition to the new bridges, the city is advancing several ring road projects, including Ring Roads 1, 2.5, and 4. These developments, alongside the new river crossings, are part of a 100-year master plan to transform the Red River into a central landscape and economic driver for the capital.
