Hanoi accelerates eight river bridge projects for July 2027 APEC deadline
Hanoi city officials, led by Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Bui Duy Cuong, ordered the rapid clearance of land and construction of eight river overpass bridges, targeting completion by July 2027 to support the upcoming APEC summit and the capital’s two‑digit economic growth goal. At a meeting on 21 July 2026, progress on each bridge was reviewed: the Tu Lien bridge has finished land handover, while the Ngoc Hoi bridge’s bordering communes were asked to complete clearance by July 2026, and the Tran Hung Dao bridge is set to finish utility relocation before 25 August. The Thượng Cát bridge is lagging far behind, with only about 10.6 % of work done, making it the slowest of the eight projects. Authorities demanded the Construction Department and the project management board clarify the delay, produce a detailed progress chart for July, and enforce weekly monitoring. Coordination with contractors, flexible permitting during the rainy season, and strict dike safety measures were also emphasized.
