Hanoi approves 75,000‑billion‑VND plan to revamp Nhuệ River

The Hanoi People's Committee approved a public‑private partnership project to invest over 75,000 billion VND in the comprehensive reconstruction of the Nhuệ River. The 61.5 km waterway, which runs through 19 districts, suffers severe water scarcity and pollution, and its condition hampers water supply, flood control and traffic connectivity.

The project, scheduled for 2026‑2030, will be executed under a Build‑Transfer (BT) contract. It includes four main components: land acquisition; dredging, embankment reinforcement and construction of a continuous riverbank; installation of roads, technical infrastructure and dual‑sided drainage; and the building of wastewater‑treatment plants. Phase 1 (to the end of 2028) will cover the 30.5 km stretch from Liên Mạc to the Ring Road 4, while Phase 2 (2029‑2030) will complete the remaining 31 km.

Funding will be secured primarily through a land‑exchange mechanism worth about 69,000 billion VND. The overhaul aims to improve water quality, increase flood‑resilience, strengthen the city's water‑supply system, alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the urban landscape along the river.
