Hanoi authorities demolish illegal villas near Dong Do Lake

Authorities in Kim Anh Commune, Hanoi, have begun the forced demolition of villas and homestays built illegally within protection forest areas surrounding Dong Do Lake. The enforcement action follows reports of unauthorized construction on land designated for forest protection.

On September 4, the Kim Anh Commune People's Committee mobilized over 70 personnel and heavy machinery to carry out the removals. One of the primary targets, the Solara Dong Do complex, included a three-story building, a swimming pool, and a pickleball court. While the owner had previously begun self-demolishing some structures to recover materials, authorities proceeded to clear the remaining violations to restore the land to its original state.

The crackdown has significantly impacted local tourism, with many businesses around the lake closing or suspending operations ahead of the enforcement deadline. Local officials stated that these measures are necessary to re-establish order in land management and ensure compliance with environmental and forestry regulations.
