Hanoi clears 300 tons of accumulated clothing waste
Authorities in Hanoi are working to clear approximately 300 tons of accumulated old clothing from a project site located at the intersection of Pham Hung and Le Duc Tho streets in Tu Liem Ward. The massive piles of textiles, which have been accumulating since around April 2025, have caused significant environmental issues, including foul odors and mold due to prolonged exposure to rain and sun.
Workers from the Hanoi Urban Environment Company (URENCO) began collecting and transporting the waste to the Nam Son Waste Treatment Plant on October 13 and 14. While some local residents have been seen scavenging the piles for intact items, the accumulation has been described as a major blight on the urban landscape.
Previous attempts to clean the area were unsuccessful because individuals continued to illegally dump clothing at the site. Local officials stated that the project site's legal procedures are now complete, and contractors are beginning construction. Authorities plan to coordinate with police to prevent further illegal dumping and ensure the site is cleared for upcoming roadwork.
