Hanoi dengue outbreak surges to 870 cases as new hotspots emerge

The Hanoi Centre for Disease Control reports that the city has recorded 871 dengue cases across 111 wards since the start of the year, nearly doubling the count from the same period last year. In the week of 17‑24 July, 146 new infections were confirmed in 61 districts, and three additional transmission clusters were identified in Chương Dương, Thanh Oai and Việt Hưng. Overall, the city has documented 30 hotspot areas, with nine still active.

Health officials attribute the rise to prolonged rainy weather, high humidity and the rapid urbanisation that creates numerous water‑holding sites for mosquitoes. Expert Lê Thanh Khôi emphasised the role of stagnant water in containers, drainage problems and densely populated housing. The Ministry of Health has stepped up epidemiological surveillance, intensified vector‑control measures and launched public‑information campaigns, while vaccination inquiries have increased.
