Hanoi hosts Ao dai cultural program at Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam

The Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam Cultural and Scientific Activity Center will host the “Net Ha Thanh - Hanoi Stories Through the Ao Dai” program on September 11 at Ho Van. Held as part of the second Thang Long - Hanoi Festival 2026, the event explores the evolution of the Ao dai and its connection to Hanoi's history, social changes, and urban identity.

The exhibition features nearly 400 canvas paintings created by fine arts students using AI technology to reinterpret historical imagery. Additionally, the display includes a collection from collector Dao Xuan Tinh, featuring 12 antique sewing machines and several vintage Peugeot bicycles and mopeds, which serve to illustrate 20th-century lifestyle and professions in the capital.

Visitors can also engage in hands-on experiences with traditional tailoring, featuring materials from Thu Silk (Lang Meo) and participation from artisans of the Trach Xa Ao dai village. The program will trace the garment's transformation from the Giao Linh and Ngu Than styles to modern designs like Le Pho and Raglan, concluding with a fashion show featuring 15 collections inspired by Hanoi's architecture and culture.
