Hanoi Inspects New Flood‑Control System After Localized Heavy‑Rain Flooding

After a heavy rain event linked to a low‑pressure trough and the Ba Vì storm, Hanoi recorded up to 84.4 mm of rain in Yên Sở and widespread precipitation exceeding 40 mm in several central districts. The sudden downpour caused temporary, localized flooding at major intersections such as Liên Trì‑Nguyễn Gia Thiều and Quang Trung‑Trần Quốc Toản.

The city's Drainage Management Department deployed crews to clear debris from drainage gates, operate multiple pump stations—including Yên Sở, Cổ Nhuế and Đồng Bông at partial or full capacity—and keep water levels in the Tô Lịch and Kim Ngưu rivers, as well as Hoàn Kiếm and West Lakes, within safe limits. By evening, water receded and traffic returned to normal, while authorities continue to monitor the newly built flood‑control structures for any issues.
